In the face of escalating cost of living pressures, vulnerable families, particularly those unemployed, renting, or with young children, bear a disproportionate burden. The resultant financial strain contributes to mental health issues, distress, and even suicidal thoughts. Lifeline has witnessed a surge in calls, with a 49% increase in referrals related to financial concerns and homelessness between August 2022 and January 2023. The demand for our financial counselling services has skyrocketed, leading to an average wait time of four to five weeks. Individuals seeking assistance often grapple with debt, mounting bills, legal actions, and creditor harassment, impacting their mental health and relationships. With the support we received from the CPP, we offer free, professional financial counselling services in designated areas, ensuring timely responses, alleviating stress, and fostering improved mental health and social well-being within the community.
